Teen killed in Kaysville crash identified

KAYSVILLE -- Police are still trying to determine the cause of a multivehicle crash that killed a Layton teen on Tuesday.

Utah High Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden said the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. at 400 North on U.S. 89. Rachel Vigil, 16, was driving a 1993 Honda Accord north on U.S. 89 and for an unknown reason, her vehicle swerved to the left and hit a 2003 Suzuki Vitara that was in a left turn lane.

According to the UHP, the Accord then veered into the southbound lanes and was hit on its passenger side by a 2000 Ford F250, causing it to spin. A 2010 Ford F150, also southbound, then struck the Accord on the driver's side.

Vigil died on the scene. A 65-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were taken to local hospitals for treatment of injuries suffered in the collision.

The crash vehicles were so widespread, all four lanes of the highway were closed for more than an hour for investigation and cleanup.
