(MATTHEW ARDEN HATFIELD/Standard-Examiner) Nearly 200 airmen from the 388th Fighter Wing and the Air Force Reserve 419th Fighter Wing board a jet at Hill Air Force Base on Friday. They are bound for a mission in the Asia-Pacific region.

200 HAFB personnel leave on deployment

HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Iraq and Afghanistan have been the focal point for military operations during much of the past decade, but during those years, troops have toiled in other parts of the world, too. Friday at Hill Air Force Base was a reminder of that, as nearly 200 personnel from Hill’s active-duty 388th Fighter Wing and Air Force Reserve 419th Fighter Wing left for a joint deployment to the Asia-Pacific region.

Hill AFB personnel gather March 12 near the Airman and Family Readiness Center as volunteers or to pick up some spuds.

No small potatoes generosity at Hill

No matter how you peel them -- or if you don't SEmD 40,000 pounds of potatoes makes a fairly large mound in a parking lot when you pile up approximately 840 fifty-pound sacks.

That's the size of the contribution Team Hill received March 12 through the generosity of Tom Holm, an Idaho Falls farmer, and U.S. Army Lt. Col.

Mending the past, brightening the future

When Airman 1st Class Christopher Kirchner received orders in June of 2008 to Hill Air Force Base after completing technical training at Sheppard AFB, Texas, he was unaware that his estranged biological father, Mark Albertson, was moving from Tennessee to Perry, Utah, at the same time. Kirchner's mother, however, was informed of both events independently by both of them and she knew it would be a perfect opportunity for the two to finally meet.
