Pleasant View resident Owen Warren Eastes, born February 6, 1938, died Thursday, August 30, 2012, at the Huntsman Cancer Center from complications of surgery. Military firefighting planes moved to Hill AFB

 

Six military cargo planes that are employed to drop fire retardant around wildfires have been moved to air tanker bases in Utah and Idaho to put them closer to the most active fires in the West.

Four of the C-130s were staged at the Boise Air Terminal and two were at Hill Air Force Base on Thursday.

Military to bury airmen killed in 1965 crash

ARLINGTON, Va. — It was Christmas Eve 1965 when the Air Force plane nicknamed "Spooky" took off from Vietnam for a combat mission. The crew sent out a "mayday" signal while flying over Laos, and after that, all contact was lost. Two days of searches turned up nothing.

Air Force chaplains adjust to gays serving openly

WRIGHTSTOWN, N.J. — Col. Timothy Wagoner has been an Air Force chaplain for 20 years, serving a denomination — the Southern Baptists — that rejects same-sex relationships.

Yet here he was at the chapel he oversees, watching supportively as an airman and his male partner celebrated a civil union ceremony.

Some Air Force pilots refuse to fly the F-22

Some of the nation’s top aviators are refusing to fly the radar-evading F-22 Raptor, a fighter jet with ongoing problems with the oxygen systems that have plagued the fleet for four years.

Norberto “Bob” Ramos — a World War II, Korea and Vietnam veteran — served in the Army after the draft and later chose to join the Air Force, where he worked as a Security Forces member. Since retiring, he is actively involved in both the local and military communities, from volunteering at the base pharmacy to sitting on committees for local nursing homes.

Pioneer in Blue: Local veteran honored with picture in Pentagon

RIVERDALE -- Hanging in a hallway of the Pentagon is a picture of Bob Ramos, 86, dressed in his U.S. Air Force blues -- the uniform he wore during a long and distinguished career.

The photograph is part of the U.S. Air Force Public Affairs Agency's Pioneers in Blue program.

Master Sgt. (Ret.) Norberto Ramos, is among 39 Air Force veterans, including medal recipients, historic figures and mentors, recognized in the program's second year for their contributions to the service.

MOUNTAIN HOME AFB, Idaho -- Capt. Francis D. Imlay, 31, an F-15E Strike Eagle pilot from Mountain Home Air Force Base, died in a crash Wednesday near an unidentified base in Southwest Asia.
