SOUTH OGDEN -- A Layton Police Department service dog escaped from his handler's residence between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday in South Ogden. The dog broke free from his crate in the officer's garage.
Officials believe that the dog then fled through the dog door and jumped over the 6-foot vinyl fence surrounding the backyard. The handler was not home at the time.
The dog is a Belgian Malinois. His name is Utah and he is approximately 60 pounds and two feet tall at his shoulders. He has a medium brown coat with black markings around his head and chest. He was wearing a silver link collar with no tags. He has 2372 tattooed in his right ear.
Layton police request that anyone who sees the dog call the police instead of trying to secure the animal. Anyone with information about the dog should call 801-497-8300. Layton Police Department is offering a $200 reward for the safe return of the dog.
