Dog-fighting ring tied to animal-shelter workers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Some employees at the Memphis Animal Shelter had ties to dog-fighting rings and operated outside city rules and procedures, according to a study of shelter operations conducted by the Memphis Rotary Club.

Ceasar

Ceasar is an 8-month-old Rottweiler. He was signed over by his original owner because they were unable to keep him. He was adopted out, and then signed back because that owner had researched the breed and had second thoughts. He is house trained, great with kids, likes other dogs and even cats. Ceasar is a playful guy and loves his treats. He knows how to, "sit" and "stay," and is smart enough to learn many more. Ceasar is in kennel old adopt 16.

Pets of the week

Patches is a 2- to 3-year-old border collie mix. He was signed over by his previous owner, who couldn't care for him. Patches has been neutered, microchipped and is current with his vaccinations. He will "hold it" until he can go outside. He is playful and loves to run around in our play area. Patches is looking and hoping to find a home. Patches is in kennel old adopt 17.

Loki

Loki is a 6-month-old Lab mix. He was signed over by his previous owner because they didn't have time to train him. They felt Loki needs to be in a home where he'll get the attention he deserves. Loki is an energetic puppy with a fun personality. Loki could play for hours. His favorite game is fetch and he's learning basic commands. Loki has been neutered, micro-chipped, and is current on vaccinations.

Sid

Sid is a 2- to 3-year-old Hound mix. He is a stray that no one claimed. Sid is a sweet boy that likes to give hugs. He's and excited guy that loves attention. He wants love and gives love openly. Sid is in kennel new adopt 8.

Geena

Geena is a 3- to 4-year-old Pit Bull. She was signed when her owner couldn't care for her anymore. Geena is a great little dog. She is friendly and loves everyone. Geena is always in great spirits. She is house trained and will "hold it" in her kennel and wait until she is let out. Geena seems to do fine with other dogs and is all around a great girl.

Tux

Tux is a black and white domestic short hair. He and his brother Sega are strays that no one claimed. He is litter box trained and gets along with other cats. He is also neutered and current on vaccinations. Tux is affectionate, loves to cuddle and weave in and out of your legs as you walk. He also likes to give kisses.

Rosco

Rosco is an 8-month-old Pit Bull mix. He was signed over due to a breed restriction at his owner's residence. Roscoe is a sweet guy and great with other dogs and kids. He is playful and loves everybody. He wants to be your friend and hopes that you will be his back. Rosco is housebroken and has been neutered, microchipped and is current on vaccinations.

Mosley

Mosley is a 2-year old Schnauzer. He was signed over by a previous owner who could no longer care for him. Mosley is a sweet little dog. He is friendly and does great with other dogs. Mosley is housetrained and ready to be a family dog. Mosley is in kennel new adopt 24.

Tin

Tin is a 1-year-old Lab mix. He is a stray that no one claimed. Tin is a fun little dog. He is friendly and loves to play. Tin would love to play fetch all day. He does great with other dogs but must be separated for feeding time as he has a hard time sharing his food with other dogs. Tin is a great dog and will make a great family pet. Tin is in kennel new adopt 10.

Weber County could raise animal shelter fees

The Weber County Animal Shelter may raise its fees, according to Councilman Tim Shupe, who said the shelter, which serves all of the cities in Weber County, is struggling financially.

“The budget is based a lot on the amount of animals that come into the shelter,” said Shupe. He said the number of cats and dogs brought into the shelter has dropped.

Displaced reptile rescuer finds new home for pets

WEST VALLEY CITY -- A 52-year-old reptile expert and the hundreds of wild animals in his care have found a new home just as they are being ousted from a West Valley City house to make way for a transit project.

Animal play area opens at Davis shelter

FRUIT HEIGHTS -- Dogs impounded at the Davis County Animal Care and Control Shelter might not mind staying an extra day or two.

The shelter's adjoining play area will officially open at noon today, providing dogs and cats impounded at the shelter with an enclosed play area.

He is an active dog that loves to play and run. Duke has been an outside dog but is super smart and will eagerly learn to be housebroken. Duke is a great dog.
