Samuel Paul and Carol Thompson celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Aug. 28. The event was commemorated at a family gathering Aug. 29, at the home of their daughter.
They were married on Aug. 28, 1935, in Farmington.
He was born in Ashland, Ky., to Benjamin F and Augie Thompson. In 1927, his family relocated to Provo, where he graduated from Provo High School. He retired after 38 years of service as an engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad. One of his many hobbies was showing fancy birds for which he won many first place ribbons at state and county fairs. One of his bird fancier acquaintances is LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson. A picture of the prophet with the couple hangs in their home. He continues to do his own yard work and tends to his roses.
She was born in Salina to Junius and Florence Webb. She spent her childhood in Salina, Monroe and Provo. She has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many callings. She enjoys visiting with family members and friends, going on long drives, dining out and watching sports on television. They enjoy attending all the Utah Jazz games and all the Brigham Young University football and basketball games.
Their children are Jay and Patti Thompson, Joan and Bervard Smith, and Carol June Thompson (deceased). They have six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren with two more great-grandchildren expected in early 2011.
