Louis Eugene and Mary Lou Peterson of Clearfield will be honored for their 50th wedding anniversary. Family and friends may attend an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Hess Park, 838 E. 600 South, Clearfield. They were married on Sept. 9, 1960, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
He was born in Logan to Louis Smith and Lorna May Peterson. He graduated from Davis High School in 1955. He has enjoyed playing the Hawaiian steel guitar in his school band and at other events. He served an LDS mission in the Gulf States and in the U.S. Army Reserve during the Berlin crisis. He worked for 28 years at Hercules as a missile inspector and at Robert Love Heating, managing the vehicle fleet.
She was born in Salt Lake City to Thomas Martin and Elaine D. Melde. She graduated from Granite High School in 1958. She worked as a secretary at Hill Air Force Base until having their first child.
They met at a church singles dance and continue to dance, which has included directing LDS dance festivals. They have served two LDS stake missions, served in many callings together and supported many family activities. They enjoy participating in Special Olympics.
Their children and their spouses are Troy and Mary Peterson, Al and Tawny Stone, Darren and Kristene Peterson, Kevin Peterson, Brandon and Amy Peterson, Troy and Cherelle Brown, Christian and Anne Peterson, and Navajo foster daughter LaRose Johnson. They have 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two foster grandchildren and three foster great-grandchildren.
