Richard and Ethel Lou Sobers of Ogden will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner hosted by their children at El Matador Restaurant.
They were married June 28, 1961, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Cardston, Alberta, Canada.
He was born June 13, 1937, in Berwyn, Ill., and attended schools in Vallejo, Calif. After graduating from Brigham Young University, he moved to Ogden in 1959. He began working for J and G Read Brothers in Ogden, and retired from the Internal Revenue Service after working for more than 32 years.
She was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Fort Benton, Mont., where she also attended schools. She started out as a country school teacher in Montana. Upon their marriage, she moved to Ogden and worked as a housewife, and for Bright Day and Harvest Health.
They have served several stints as local missionaries and enjoy spending time with family.
Their children and their spouses are Nathan Sobers and companion Michael Kunz, Seattle; Richard Scott Sobers, West Point; Nancy and Byron Butler, Brigham City; and James and Irma Sobers, South Ogden. They have 11 grandchildren.
