Young Subaru celebrates new South Ogden location today

SOUTH OGDEN — Most people would rather not have neighbors that pack their driveway with cars morning, noon and night.

That is, unless the neighbor is a new car dealership ready to deliver an economic shot in the arm for a Weber County city.

“A new car dealership in a small community adds tax revenue, which is something any city would want,” said South Ogden Mayor James Minster. “It’s just a good business to have in a community.”

One of leasing's biggest attractions is that it typically offers lower monthly payments than a sale.

DALLAS -- A perfect storm in the leasing business recently blew a new GMC pickup into Roger Cade's driveway.

Ogden Chevy dealership rebuilds

OGDEN -- As the walls of the old dealership came tumbling down Friday, a new $3 million showroom for John Watson Chevrolet moved one step closer to completion.

General sales manager Cory Watson sat with his family in the used car lobby at 3535 Wall Ave. while demolition machinery clawed at the 16,000-square-foot building.

The parts department, complete with a new northern entrance, will remain in service while the new 20,000-square-foot showroom -- including offices, a car delivery area and new service drives -- is constructed. Watson anticipates an August grand opening.

U.S. automakers stronger in 2011

WASHINGTON -- After a near collapse at the height of the Great Recession, the streamlined U.S. auto industry defied the odds and outperformed the greater economy this year with solid sales increases, job growth and product innovations that signal that a full industry recovery no longer is just possible, but probable.

Layton auto showrooms on the mend

LAYTON — Two dealerships are showing that the auto industry can still succeed, at least on a local level.

Cutrubus is celebrating the grand opening of its Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership today, while Young Buick GMC is busy remodeling its showroom. Both dealerships are on Main Street and are an important part of the business community.

“A lot of very smart economists say the auto industry is going to help lead the county out of the recession,” said Ben Hart, Layton’s economic development specialist. “We are seeing that on a local level. And the fact that people are wanting to reinvest in their businesses right now says a lot about how the economy is improving.”
