HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Layton Mayor Steve Curtis has officially earned his wings.

Curtis was one of three Top of Utah residents recently named the top community supporters of Hill Air Force Base.

Curtis received the base’s “Community Wingman Award,” which is given out once a year by Hill officials to recognize members of the Top of Utah community for their outstanding support of Hill, its programs and its airmen.

SYRACUSE -- Will Bargar has been honored for helping get neighbors out of a burning home.

The city council formally honored the Syracuse resident during a recent meeting for his role in a July 13 fire near his home. Bargar was not present for the honor.

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — A Weber State University student has been presented the Association of the United States Army Leadership Excellence Award at the U.S. Army Cadet Command’s Leader Development and Assessment Course or LDAC.

Timothy DeLeon, of Roy, ranked first among his training regiment of more than 400 Army Cadets at the 29-day Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as Operation Warrior Forge — the capstone training and assessment exercise for the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

OGDEN — Rotary Club of Ogden was recognized with numerous awards at the Rotary District 5420 annual conference at Zermatt Resort in Midway on June 2.

OGDEN — The young teen sitting in Anna Guymon’s tobacco cessation class acted tough and cocky, but once class ended and he asked to speak with his instructor, his attitude quickly changed and he broke into uncontrollable sobs.

SOUTH OGDEN — After two years of assessment, planning and development, South Ogden City Manager Matt Dixon was recently awarded the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association.
