Weber County deputy honored

OGDEN -- The Board of Commissioners of Weber County recently presented the Seal of Service award to Weber County Sheriff’s Deputy Landry Roskelly.

Roskelly received the award for his work as an emergency medical technician in the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Medical Department.

Layton mayor earns wingman award for supporting F-35s at Hill

HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Layton Mayor Steve Curtis has officially earned his wings.

Curtis was one of three Top of Utah residents recently named the top community supporters of Hill Air Force Base.

Curtis received the base’s “Community Wingman Award,” which is given out once a year by Hill officials to recognize members of the Top of Utah community for their outstanding support of Hill, its programs and its airmen.

Katie’s Hero Award goes to Sen. Adams

CHICAGO — The parents of murder victim Katie Sepich were joined by abduction survivor Elizabeth Smart in presenting Utah Sen. Stuart Adams with the Katie’s Hero Award.

Syracuse resident honored for fire reaction

SYRACUSE -- Will Bargar has been honored for helping get neighbors out of a burning home.

The city council formally honored the Syracuse resident during a recent meeting for his role in a July 13 fire near his home. Bargar was not present for the honor.

Environmentalist award announced

SALT LAKE CITY — Lynn Anderson, of Bountiful, a candidate for the Utah House of Representatives 19th District, was named the Environmentalist of the Year last week by the Utah Environmental Congress.

Anderson is a proponent of stricter air standards and safety oversight of Utah-based refineries as well as increasing education funding by instituting a severance tax on the mining of coal.

WSU student earns military leadership award

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — A Weber State University student has been presented the Association of the United States Army Leadership Excellence Award at the U.S. Army Cadet Command’s Leader Development and Assessment Course or LDAC.

Timothy DeLeon, of Roy, ranked first among his training regiment of more than 400 Army Cadets at the 29-day Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as Operation Warrior Forge — the capstone training and assessment exercise for the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

SYRACUSE -- The Government Finance Officers Association of The United States and Canada has awarded the city its certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for the second straight year.

The award is considered the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The award is specific to the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011

Stephen Marshall, city finance director, said he intends to work to receive the award for the city each year.

The GFOA is a nonprofit association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
