High school honor band to perform

OGDEN -- Weber State’s Department of Performing Arts will host the WSU High School Honor Band with the Ogden Concert Band, on Saturday.

The free concert will be at 4 p.m. in the Austad Auditorium, Browning Center.

Clearfield Community Band mixing things up for public concert

CLEARFIELD — The sounds of the wind instruments is being married to the music of stringed instruments as the community band focuses on recreating the music of the “Messiah.”

The Clearfield Community Band, which is in its seventh year, is planning to perform selections from Handel’s “Messiah” for its public December concert. To accomplish this, the band of more than 30 members, has opened its ranks to stringed players.

Director Gretchen Myers said she wanted to try something new for the members to experience and showcase.

Farmington Junior High band program earns prestigious Sudler Cup

FARMINGTON — Band members at Farmington Junior High School love their band and are dedicated hard workers; but it wasn’t just the work of this year’s students that earned a prestigious award for the school’s band program.

Bands — past and present — contributed to the recent recognition of the school and director Heath Wolf and his assistant director Christine Wolf.

Heath Wolf will be presented with the Sudler Cup on Friday at the Farmington Junior High band concert, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Davis High School Auditorium, 325 S. Main, Kaysville.

High school bands to perform Tuesday

OGDEN -- Weber State University's Performing Arts Department on Tuesday will host a WSU Marching Band review featuring high school bands from Utah.

Bands will perform for judges and receive critiques to improve their performance. The event is at 4 p.m. at Stewart Stadium, WSU, 3848 Harrison Blvd.

Tickets are $6 or $30 for a family of six or fewer.

Renting band instruments popular this time of year

School just wouldn't be the same without the band playing at athletic events or assemblies.
