Jay Pulsipher Hawkes, born Feb. 15, 1927, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, in Provo. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Former classmates remember Ostberg

GARLAND -- Wearing their best dress clothes as a symbol of respect, a half-dozen solemn ninth-graders gathered Tuesday in a small office at Bear River Middle School to grieve the death of a former classmate.

Fourteen-year-old Robby Ostberg died Monday morning after accidentally shooting himself in the head with a miniature cannon at his home in the 400 block of Tremont Street in Tremonton.

Ostberg hadn't attended Bear River Middle School for 10 months, but the students who gathered around a table outside a guidance counselor's office said their fond recollections of him remain fresh.

AYP report failures for Box Elder schools

A previous posting of Box Elder School District schools failed to make Adequate Yearly Progress, based on a Utah State Board of Education report, mistakenly included schools that were granted AYP waivers because they made significant progress from the previous year.

TREMONTON -- Standards are now in place establishing Tremonton as a child-safe city, and Mayor Roger Fridal has signed a proclamation establishing and promoting child-safe standards within the community.

Tremonton to adopt anti-porn standard

TREMONTON -- Representing Citizens for Families, Matt Zollinger and John Gunther asked the Tremonton City Council to adopt a citywide standard opposing pornography within the community.
