Madoff trustee gets $7B settlement

NEW YORK -- The trustee recovering money for Bernard Madoff's burned investors has reached a $7.2 billion settlement with the estate of a Florida philanthropist and businessman who had been the single-largest beneficiary of the fraud.

Court-appointed trustee Irving Picard planned an announcement Friday in Manhattan about the estate of Jeffry Picower, who drowned after suffering a heart attack in the swimming pool of his Palm Beach, Fla., mansion on Oct. 25, 2009.

Madoff son found dead in NYC apartment

NEW YORK -- One of Bernard Madoff's sons was found dead of an apparent suicide Saturday on the second anniversary of his father's arrest, according to a law enforcement official.

Mark Madoff, 46, was found hanged in his apartment in Manhattan's fashionable SoHo section, according to the official. A family member notified police around 7:30 a.m.
