UofU puts brakes on proposed bike, board ban

SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah is putting the brakes on a proposal to ban skateboards and bicycles on the school campus.

The bike park will be located in the foothills above Ogden, between 9th and 12th streets, and will feature three one-way trails, all varying in degree of difficulty.

OGDEN — The Weber Ogden Bicycle Advisory Committee will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 7 in the third-floor conference room at the Ogden City Municipal Building, 2549 Washington Blvd.

British bike sales in high gear since Olympics

LONDON — Britain’s cycling success in the London Olympic Games and the Tour de France has put bicycle sales in a higher gear, a leading seller revealed Thursday.

Bike lanes coming to 4400 South in Riverdale

RIVERDALE — Following the recommendations of a bike/pedestrian ad hoc committee, the Riverdale City Council has unanimously agreed to paint bike lanes on 4400 South.

Public invited to free bike safety event

OGDEN -- McKay-Dee Hospital will hold a bike safety event, free to the public, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in an effort to educate the public on the importance of wearing bike helmets and obeying bike safety rules.

Cycling advocates discuss ways to elevate sport in Utah

OGDEN -- Utah is a one-of-a-kind place to ride a bicycle, but it still isn't very bike friendly.

Young adults opting for bikes, buses instead of cars

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- At the corner of Magnolia Street and Terracina Drive, just off the Riverside Community College campus, empty spots on the front bicycle racks of Riverside Transit Agency buses are becoming a hot commodity.

On a recent day, students snagged the two holders on a southwest-bound bus, leaving another to wait for the next bus to come along.

The high cost of driving and a greater interest in personal fitness and environmental stewardship have many young adults ditching their cars and trucks in favor of buses and bikes.
