SYRACUSE — City officials will aggressively push a move to replace a costly utility billing system with a more efficient electronic mechanism, which some staff hope could curb city expenses as much as $14,000 a year.
Stephen Marshall, city budget director, gave a presentation to the city council on the new billing emphasis, during a recent work session, and noted it currently costs the city 55 cents to generate a utility bill, while moving to an electronic format could cost as little as 10 cents a bill.
To make the change, residents will need to sign up for the new electronic format.
