Adolescent birth rates, injury deaths declining

LOS ANGELES -- The rate of births among teenagers, preterm births, injury deaths for teens and binge drinking are all declining, and that's good news for America's children, according to a new government report issued Thursday. But more young teens are using illicit drugs, more are likely to be living in poverty and fewer have parents who are working full time, according to the report, "America's Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being 2011."

OGDEN -- Birth rates among local teen mothers seem to be decreasing, following a national trend.

US teen birth rate at all-time low

ATLANTA -- The U.S. teen birth rate hit an all-time low in 2009 -- a decline that stunned experts say is partly because of the economy.

The birth rate for teenagers fell to 39 births per 1,000 girls, ages 15 through 19, according to a government report released Tuesday. It was a 6 percent decline from the previous year, and the lowest rate since health officials started tracking that data in 1940.
