Richard Thirkill of Ogden celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends at the Ruby River Steak House.

He was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Logan to Roberta and Edwin Thirkill. His early years were spent in Smithfield before moving to Ogden. He graduated from Weber High School and joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Verle L. Hartley of Roy celebrated his 80th birthday with a family dinner at the Timbermine Restaurant & Steak House.

He was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Ogden to Cyril and Lillian Hartley.

He graduated from Ogden High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the destroyer USS Brown DD-546.

On June 22, 1956, he married Alice Speedy of Richfield, Idaho. Together they raised four children. Their children and spouses are Maureen and Steve Magagna, Dan and Cindy Hartley, Roger Hartley, and Jennifer and Sean George.

Wayne A. Grose of Harrisville will celebrate his 90th birthday on Oct. 14. An open house will be held in his honor from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 13 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Colonial Springs Ward meetinghouse, 2360 N. 600 West, Harrisville.

Neil K. Noorda of Fruit Heights will celebrate his 80 birthday.

Born Sept. 12, 1932, to Henry J. Noorda and Carrie Kaalstad Noorda, he grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. While on leave, he married Arlene Calvin in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated their 60th anniversary. They lived in Coronado, Calif., and Los Angeles while he attended school for advertising and graphic design.

Cheryl Jean Winter Holmes of Liberty celebrated her 80th birthday on Sept. 6. The event was commemorated with a family party held at her home on Sept. 1.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1932. The youngest of four girls, she was born in Ogden to Peter and Mabel Blanch Winter of Huntsville. She lived in Huntsville until her marriage to Avan Lavoy Holmes of Liberty.

Max B. Creager will celebrate his 80th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Rock Church, 10 W. Young St., Morgan.

Born to Sidney and Cleora Creager Sept. 5, 1932, in Morgan, he was raised in Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School.

Elaine Christiansen of North Ogden celebrated her 85th birthday with a family reunion and dinner on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1927, in Springville to Maud and Ivan Beardall.

She married Dean J. Christiansen on Sept. 17, 1947, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Manti Temple.
