Dorothy Sumner

Dorothy Sumner will celebrate her 80th birthday on March 2. Family and friends may attend an open house in her honor from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the South Ogden Community Center, 590 39th St. (east of her home).

Born on March 2, 1930, in Ogden to John and Edna Phalen, she graduated from Ogden High School in 1948. She worked at Shupe Williams Candy Factory, Wonder Bakery and Sanitary Laundry. Later while raising her family, she worked out of her home.

She has a brother and a sister: John Phalen and (Kathryn Foutty recently deceased). Her children are Lorrie and Blake Young, Susan Jorgensen, and Kristie and Brent Butterfield. She has six granddaughters, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

She enjoys reading, playing games and has been on several bowling leagues for more than 50 years.
