Kenneth Hammon Sr. of Syracuse will celebrate his 85th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 at 3802 W. Hammer Lane, Syracuse.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1925, in West Point to Marion B. and Rhea T. Hammon. He married Barbara Simmons in Jackson Hole, Wyo. Later their vows were solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ogden Temple.
He served in law enforcement for more than 28 years. He served two terms as sheriff of Davis County and later as chief deputy of Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.
His interests have included hunting, camping and vacationing in the Uinta Mountains.
He raised 14 children. He has more than 40 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Since retirement, he has raised champion racing quarter horses.
He served an LDS mission to Martin's Cove.
He is past president of the Utah Peace Officers Association and is active in the National Sheriff's Association.
