Opal McArthur Gandee of Washington Terrace will celebrate her 90th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in her honor from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Washington Terrace 2nd Ward, 4210 S. 300 West (About one-half block southeast of Riverdale Road on 300 West.)
She was born in Churchill, Idaho, on Sept. 8, 1920, to John O and Pearl McArthur. She is the sixth child in a family of 10 girls and three boys.
She married Virgil K Gandee on May 31, 1939, in Idaho. Their vows were later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. After their marriage, they lived in Oregon for about four years. Subsequently they moved to Roy, Hooper and California, where Virgil worked. He died in July 1971. After his death, she returned from California to live in Washington Terrace.
She worked for American Linen and at T.H. Bell Junior High School for 21 years.
An active member of LDS Church, she has served in the Primary and Young Women's organizations, and as a stake missionary. Most of the time, she served in Relief Society.
She still grows a small garden each year. Until this year, she has done her own yard work.
Her children and their spouses are Kenneth and Mary Gandee, and Bob Gandee (deceased). She has four grandchildren (two deceased) and two step- grandchildren.
