Herbert E. Fowers

Herbert E. Fowers celebrated his 90th birthday at a family party on Sept. 4.

He was born on Sept. 8, 1920, to Leslie and Harriet "Hattie" Fowers in Hooper. He is the oldest of two brothers and one sister. He graduated from Weber High School in 1939. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Copahee.

He married Delsa Griffith on March 1, 1943, in Las Vegas. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. She died in September 2009.

His seven children and their spouses are Marsha and Merlin Paul, Farr West; Steve and Rose Fowers, Roy; Jerry and Nancy Fowers, Wyoming; Susan and John Smith, Hooper; Gail Yngve, Brigham City; Cheryl and Rick Vallejos, Ogden; and Lisa and Mark Bonasera, California. He has 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He farmed in Hooper and Clifton, Idaho. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and the Ogden Union Railway & Depot Co. until retirement.

He is an active member of the LDS Church and has served in many positions. He and his wife served as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple for many years.
