Dorothy Jean Arndt of Layton celebrated her 80th birthday with a family dinner at Red Lobster.
She was born on May 16, 1931, in Longview, Texas, to Jessie S. and Mamie L. Beck. She grew up in Gladewater, Texas, the third child of eight children.
She graduated from Gladewater High School in 1950 and worked in retail for many years for the Army Air Force Exchange Service, and retired as general manager in the Northern California Sales District in 1991.
She married Gale W. Arndt on Feb. 11, 1953, and their vows were solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple on July 12, 1963.
She has held many church callings in the LDS Church, including presidencies in Young Women's, Primary and Relief Society, and was an Ogden LDS Temple ordinance worker.
Her children and their spouses are Sharon Hinson, Layton; Steve and Cindy Arndt, Riverdale; Dick and Pat Arndt, Clearfield; Bess and Calvin Kendell, Clearfield; and Lori and William Snegirev, Palmer, Alaska. She has 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
