Gwen Stokes Garlick of Ogden celebrated her 90th birthday with her family and friends on Saturday.
She was born in Chicago on June 24, 1921, to John and Mabel Babcock. She moved to Utah in 1924. She married her sweetheart Carl D. Stokes on Dec. 14, 1936, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple with both of their fathers as witnesses.
They had four children: Annette Stokes, Dean Stokes, Larry Stokes, and Vern Stokes.
She owned a flower and gift shop in South Ogden for three years. She was the occupational therapist director for 11 years at the Weber County Hospital and trained in San Francisco, Hawaii and at Stanford University.
She and her husband spent many nights dancing in Ogden and St. George. After he died, she married Geoffery Garlick on Aug. 20, 2003.
She has nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She has been active in the LDS Church, Red Hat group, Chareya, and taught water aerobics. She enjoys gardening, playing pinochle and spending time with her family.
