OGDEN — MountainStar Blood Services has launched a new website.

Red Cross reports critical need for blood donations

OGDEN — The American Red Cross is asking people to take a few minutes to roll up their sleeves and donate blood as supplies are at a critical low right now.

All types of blood are always needed. However, the most urgent need is for blood types O positive and negative, B negative and A negative, said John Petersen, public relations manager and recruiter for the American Red Cross Blood Services of Utah.

MountainStar Blood Services also needs blood, said Steve Hansen, recruiting and marketing supervisor.

How to save a life: OHS students donate blood

OGDEN -- Students at Ogden High School are getting their blood sucked by the hundreds, but not by mysterious vampires or a new cult -- it's just a good, old-fashioned blood drive.

High school blood drives have been growing in popularity since the donation age was changed to 16 last June.

Blood donors needed for Monday event

ROY -- Heritage Park Care Center and the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the center, 2700 W. 5600 South.

People who want to schedule their blood donation may call Nicole Van Tassell at 801-628-5876. If you have questions about your eligibility to donate blood, call 866-236-3276.

Heritage Park is also collecting food donations until Dec. 22 for the Weber County Food Bank. Donations may be brought to the center at the above address. Call Nicole at 801-628-5876 if you have questions.

Blood drive, bake sale Tuesdayn in Ogden

OGDEN -- A blood drive and bake sale to raise funds for a trip to Yellowstone National Park will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Crestwood Care and Rehab Center, 3665 Brinker Ave.

The center is taking up to a dozen residents for a three-day stay in Yellowstone at the end of September. Call 801-627-2273 for more information or to make a donation.

OGDEN -- Donate a pint of blood during July or August and MountainStar Blood Services will give you a coupon for a frosty treat.

New Utah law allows 16-year-olds to donate blood

SALT LAKE CITY  — Sixteen-year-olds in Utah will be able to donate blood with their parents' consent under a new law passed by the state Legislature.

Blood drive set for Wednesday

Layton lawmaker sponsors bill to allow 16-year-olds to donate blood

SALT LAKE CITY -- Rep. Stephen Handy, R-Layton, is a vote away from becoming the man who opened up fresh veins in Utah.

Handy is sponsoring House Bill 64, which would allow 16-year-olds to donate blood with signed parental consent in order to boost donor numbers and keep up with demand.

Under current law, 17-year-olds are the only minors who can donate.

OGDEN -- We're talking way more blood than in any slasher flick or vampire series. Charlene Riddle and Michael Pittman each have donated the equivalent of 128, 2-liter Pepsi bottles full of blood during their lives.

Utah blood bank offering to pay lucky donor's rent

SALT LAKE CITY -- The American Red Cross in Utah is taking an unusual step to boost blood bank supplies.

It's offering to pay one month's rent or a mortgage payment -- up to $1,500 -- for one lucky donor who gives blood during January.
