Challenge helps students build keyboarding skills

SYRACUSE — Inside Room 48, the computer lab at Bluff Ridge Elementary School, kids typed furiously in a keyboard challenge. “Handwriting was a big thing when I was a kid,” said Vice Principal Kellie Mudrow. “Now one of the most important skills is keyboarding.”

The challenge encourages students to develop that vital skill, said computer lab director Heidi Peace.

Three Syracuse kids turn 11 on 11-11-11

SYRACUSE — Three Syracuse children celebrate birthdays today, turning 11 years old on the 11th day of the 11th month in the 11th year of the century.

That’s right, Bryson Harris, Jake Okelberry and Lillie Law each turn 11 on Veterans Day, a federal holiday.

Arrrrr! Student 'pirates' get wet on field day

SYRACUSE -- Thursday was a great day for Logan Heinze.

The third-grader walked into the Bluff Ridge Elementary School office with a friend and said, "I can't wait until field day."

A few minutes later, activities filled the playground behind the school.
