Bomb Threat

PITTSBURGH — Dozens of bomb threats at the University of Pittsburgh, including at least four on Monday, have prompted professors to start holding classes outside and forced security officials to implement new building access measures and offer a $50,000 reward.

ST. GEORGE -- A 26-year-old Washington resident is behind bars after police say he claimed to have a bomb at a pharmacy, but actually had an old typewriter.

ROY — A plot by two Roy High School students to kill fellow classmates in what court documents described as a Columbine-style massacre was in its final planning stages, Police Chief Greg Whinham said Thursday.

When asked by reporters during a news conference to gauge on a scale of one to 10 the imminent threat of the bomb plot, Whinham quickly responded.

LONDON -- U.K. police managed to smuggle a fake bomb into Olympic Park in a security test, overshadowing a special U.K. Cabinet meeting held at the park Monday marking 200 days until the Summer Games begin.

CENTERVILLE -- Police are investigating a bomb threat made to Wells Fargo Bank on Tuesday.

The call came in at 1:35 p.m., said Police Lt. Paul Child. The caller, who sounded like a middle-age woman, told the employee that her father had built a bomb, "and intended to blow up the office," Child said.

WASHINGTON -- Al-Qaida may have sent American terrorists or men carrying U.S. travel documents to launch an attack on Washington or New York to coincide with memorials marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11, government officials say.

One U.S. official says al-Qaida dispatched three men, at least two of whom could be U.S. citizens, to detonate a car bomb in one of the cities. Should that mission prove impossible, the attackers have been told to simply cause as much destruction as they can.
