'Works' bomb suspect misses court appearance while in jail

FARMINGTON — Chris Andrew Perry didn’t show up in court Monday to the surprise of the judge and attorneys.

But it turns out he had an excuse: He was already in jail.

Perry, 18, had pleaded guilty to charges related to the explosion of four incendiary devices, known as “the Works bomb,” at different locations, including Bountiful High School.

BOUNTIFUL — Bomb sniffing dogs from numerous police agencies were at Bountiful High School Wednesday morning, searching hallways to make sure their were no more chemical bombs following an explosion at the school.

Bomb technician leaves force after 24 years

FARMINGTON -- "Uncle Bob" finally retired from the Davis County Sheriff's Office.

Detective Bob Hunt, 73, hung up his holster and swapped it for golf clubs after 56 years of public service, with the last 24 years dedicated to making Davis County streets safer as a bomb technician and crime lab detective.

"We didn't think he'd ever retire," said his daughter, Chelsea Van Vliet.

Lawyers negotiate "Works" bomb case

FARMINGTON -- A resolution could be reached in a case against a Syracuse man accused of teaching teenagers how to make the "Works" bomb.

Justin Breg Goodrich, 24, appeared in 2nd District Court on Monday. He is charged with six counts of possession of or reckless use of an incendiary device, all second-degree felonies. He pleaded not guilty to the charges July 11.

Soldier invents device to foil bombs

FORWARD OPERATING BASE PASAB, Afghanistan -- The Taliban will use just about anything to hide bombs, and a perfect spot is a culvert underneath a road.

Now many of the culverts near this base in Kandahar province are no longer prime bomb-hiding locations, thanks to the ingenuity of a Wisconsin soldier.

Not guilty plea in 'Works' bomb-making case

FARMINGTON -- A 24-year-old man pleaded not guilty to charges of making "Works" bombs in Syracuse.

Justin Breg Goodrich appeared before Judge Michael G. Allphin on Monday in 2nd District Court. He is charged with six counts of possession of or reckless use of an incendiary device, all second-degree felonies. If convicted of any of the charges, Goodrich could face a sentence on each charge of one to 15 years in Utah State Prison.

Explosions rock Mumbai

MUMBAI, India — Near-simultaneous bomb blasts rocked three busy neighborhoods during evening rush hour in India’s busy financial capital Wednesday, killing 17 people in another terrorist attack on the city besieged by militants nearly three years ago.

Blood-covered bodies lay on Mumbai streets and people hugged and wept. Others carried the wounded to taxis. Crowds gathered in the blast areas as police questioned witnesses, and bomb squads inspected the undercarriages of vehicles searching for clues and other explosives.
