Zsa Zsa Gabor's home burglarized; husband estimates loss at $100,000

LOS ANGELES -- Zsa Zsa Gabor's Bel-Air mansion was burglarized early Sunday and several personal items were stolen, authorities said.

Officers from the West Los Angeles police station responded to a call about 10 a.m. regarding a burglary at the home of Gabor and her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, said LAPD spokeswoman Karen Rayner.

"Apparently there was some physical evidence that burglars had entered through the rear window and removed some art pieces and some personal property," Rayner said.

Von Anhalt said he went downstairs about 3 a.m. Sunday after being awakened by "loud noises" but discovered nothing suspicious besides open doors to the living room and kitchen.

"I went outside to the garden and I didn't see anybody," he said. "I thought maybe it was the wind or I left the doors open or something." But the next morning, he discovered several broken windows and called the police.

Von Anhalt estimates that the thieves stole about $100,000 in camera equipment and artwork, including two German-made statues he and Gabor bought while on their honeymoon in Munich 25 years ago.

"My wife was very upset about the statues. She was crying," he said. "What can I say, I don't know if she knew what was going on, but it upset her very much."

Von Anhalt said the burglary also "totally screwed up" his weekend and caused him to miss several post-Oscars parties. "I'm going shopping right now," he said Monday. "I'm doing OK. Lots of work, but no fun."
