OGDEN -- Flying J Insurance Company will be sold to The Buckner Company as of Jan. 1.
Terry Buckner, president and CEO, said Flying J Insurance's employees will move to Buckner's Ogden offices. Insurance clients will be transitioned seamlessly and the only change they will see is an increase in options and services.
The Buckner Company is looking to diversify its services, Buckner said.
"What prompted it (the acquisition) is our desire to grow our trucking practice, and Flying J gave us an opportunity to expand that several-fold over what we're doing right now," he said.
Buckner said Flying J Insurance was looking at its options when Buckner approached the company about a deal. No sale price was disclosed.
It's a good opportunity to get into the trucking insurance industry while it's down, because Buckner said he expects it to improve and continue to be an important part of national industry.
As a larger company, Buckner said, clients will have access to new services.
"I do think it's going to be a wonderful opportunity for Flying J clients, Flying J employees and for Ogden," he said.
Buckner said the firm is analyzing how the Flying J Insurance operation will fit into the office and how the employees will be integrated.
In a news release, Mark Farmer, president of Flying J Insurance Services, said the move will benefit Flying J clients.
"The Buckner Company has an outstanding reputation in the business," he said. "I have no doubt our clients are in good hands and that this move will benefit them by giving them even more choices for their insurance programs."
Flying J Insurance Services places approximately $25 million of insurance premiums annually, and has been providing insurance to the trucking industry since 1997.
Flying J, the parent company of the insurance firm, filed for bankruptcy protection a year ago and has been selling components of the fuel-supply company since.
