BOUNTIFUL -- City leaders have approved a new city master plan two years after initiating the process.
The plan, approved recently by a 5-0 vote, sets new guidelines on transportation, recreation and trails, downtown, and land use.
It was passed without discussion after almost two months of public hearings and meetings.
The most noticeable changes include guidelines on domestic farm animals in the city and parameters for redevelopment within city boundaries.
Members of the city council have suggested the new plan isn't perfect, but is a viable approach to the city's future.
Mayor Joe Johnson praised the master plan committees and credited the work of Aric Jensen, director of planning and economic development, in getting a new master plan in place.
Beginning in 2008, committees were set up for each of the four topics. Members of the city council and planning commission sat on each committee.
All four committees then submitted plans, which were reviewed before they were outlined to the public at an open house in September.
