Although promotions can be hard to come by these days, Ogden native Mark DeYoung landed a big one.
DeYoung, 51, the former head of ATK's Armament Systems Group, was named the new president and CEO of Minneapolis-based Alliant Techsystems (ATK) on Thursday.
In a news release, DeYoung said he was honored to be chosen by the board of directors and is looking forward to building and expanding the company's success. He called ATK a leader in its market that provides affordable innovation.
"ATK is a company making a difference, and I look forward to helping make a great company become even better," he said.
DeYoung has been with the company for 25 years. Under his leadership as president of Armament Systems, the group's revenue has gone from $600 million to $2.1 billion.
The release said his modernization efforts improved revenue, and while he was president, Armament Systems expanded into commercial ammunition, the tactical accessories market and international markets for non-standard ammunition and medium-caliber gun systems.
Ron Fogleman, ATK board chairman, said DeYoung was chosen from among a group of very qualified candidates because of the variety of his experiences with ATK, his vision for the company and consistent leadership.
DeYoung received his bachelor's degree in business from Weber State University and an MBA from Westminster College in Salt Lake City.
