LAYTON -- A video by a Cache County family tops the list of home-grown videos about farm life. Those videos are currently showcased on the Utah Department of Agriculture Web site at http://ag.utah.gov.
It's all part of the latest effort to promote Utah farms on National Agriculture Day, which is being celebrated today across the country.
"When I talk about it being a family-owned business, it's not only owned, but run by the family," Mark Woodward, Ritewood Eggs plant manager, says on the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food's Web site video.
Woodward is a fourth-generation egg farmer at Ritewood. His video is one of several featured by the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food in its "Real Talk From Real Farmers" video contest.
The department is inviting Utah farmers and ranchers to document, through videotape, how they produce our food and fabric while caring for the land and animals.
The Top 10 entries will receive an invitation by Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Leonard Blackham to attend a Thanksgiving celebration in November.
"Our goal is to help Utahns understand where their food comes from by seeing and hearing directly from Utah farmers and ranchers," Blackham said.
He said he often hears how farmers and ranchers wish city dwellers knew what it takes to get food from the farm to the store.
Farmers and ranchers can see samples of other entries and read contest details on the department's Web site.
