RIVERDALE -- The new Larry H. Miller car dealership in Riverdale is going to get a new home.
At the dealership's grand opening Tuesday afternoon, Troy Bullard, general manager, announced they are in the process of putting a new dealership on the land now occupied by the closed Cinedome Theaters, 1481 W. Riverdale Road.
In January, the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealership moved into the former Saturn of Riverdale building at 5212 Freeway Park Drive. Business is going so well that the expansion was planned and projected to be finished by mid-2011, said Jay Francis, executive vice president of operations for Larry H. Miller.
The building plans are still in the permitting process, said Tony Schnurr, president and chief operating officer of the Larry H. Miller Automotive Division.
The building will be on more than 6 acres and will have triple the holding capacity of the current location, Bullard said.
"It's exciting, and I think it's what Larry would want," said Gail Miller, Larry Miller's widow.
"Especially in light of the economic situation, it's nice to create good jobs for people. It's not about acquiring more dealerships. It's an opportunity for people to have good jobs where they can support families."
Her son, Greg Miller, president of Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, said the opening was one of the few fun things the company has done in the past few months.
Gail Miller said it's exciting to see her four sons, all of whom are involved in the Larry H. Miller Group, continue her husband's vision.
The dealership will continue to operate in its current location until the new building is finished, Bullard said.
Although the space is a bit cramped, it's not all bad, Schnurr said.
"It's tight quarters, but we have great togetherness, and only good things can come of it (the expansion)."
