LAYTON -- The East Gate business research park has its first official tenant.
Commercial real estate brokerage NAI Utah announced Wednesday it has finalized a lease agreement with aerospace manufacturer Janicki Industries of Washington state as the anchor tenant for JL Properties Inc.'s new business development in East Gate.
Janicki is a high-precision tooling company, headquartered in Sedro-Woolley, Wash. The company's new built-to-suit facility will be a 100,000 -square-foot composites manufacturing plant at 3835 N. Fairfield Road in Layton, said Alan Seko, with XO Marketing.
The plant will employ about 50 full-time workers, the large majority of those positions to be open to the local workforce, according to Lisa Janicki, chief financial officer for the family-owned company.
The Janicki facility will support the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, which has a maintenance depot at Hill Air Force Base.
"By committing to open a facility in the East Gate Business Park, Janicki Industries is playing a key role in beginning to create an important new economic base for Layton and the state as a whole," said Bill Nicoloff, the co-founder and managing partner of NAI Utah.
The construction of the new building is scheduled to take between six and seven months, he said. The contractor for the project is Big D Construction.
"As a leader in composites processing, Janicki Industries will play an integral role in strengthening the aerospace industry in Northern Utah," Layton Mayor Steve Curtis said.
"Nobody in the world can do what Janicki Industries does and so this is a big win not just for Layton, but for all of Northern Utah."
Janicki officials estimate the company will be making a $19.5 million capital investment in the Utah plant.
In addition to the initial 50 jobs, Janicki officials have said there is potential for more jobs in the future.
The East Gate development, north of SR-193, just east of the base, consists of 600 acres. The development will be mixed use and is expected to include commercial and residential aspects.
