SALT LAKE CITY - KUTV has announced Sterling Poulson has accepted the position of Chief Meteorologist. Sterling brings an incredible amount of experience to the post, and is poised to lead 2News into the future. Sterling has been a main meteorologist with the 2News Weather Team since he joined KUTV in 1989.
"Sterling is a leader in Utah Meteorology, as well in our community," said News Director Steve Hertzke. "With the changes happening right now in weather technology, we are excited he will be our new Chief Meteorologist. The position allows Sterling to guide 2News as we adopt new weather forecasting capabilities, and engineer the most accurate forecast in the state."
Sterling currently anchors the Fresh Air Forecast for the 5pm, 6pm, and 10pm broadcasts of 2News. He along with Debbie Worthen and Lindsay Storrs make up 2News Weather Team.
"The greatest challenge in forecasting Utah weather is how predictably un-predictable it can be," said Poulson. "With such a variety of weather in different climate zones and seasons, it's exciting each day to meet the challenge of giving our viewers the most accurate forecast possible to help them plan their lives."
Sterling is a veteran forecaster who trained as a meteorologist during his ten years in the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam as well as on special assignment for Air Force One. He has earned the broadcast seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society.
Sterling is an avid music lover and currently is the Music Director for the Choral Arts Society of Utah. He also worked closely with the Mormon Tabernacle choir for 23 years.
