Block party in Layton on Thursday promises food, fun

LAYTON -- Four Layton restaurants organizing a large block party for Thursday boast a guest list that includes the Weber State University's men's and women's basketball teams and Layton police.

The fourth annual "Party on the Boulevard" will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. along the stretch of Heritage Park Boulevard in front of the Hilton Garden Inn to 700 West.

This free signature event is being organized by four independent Davis County restaurants, said Kym Buttschardt, owner of Roosters Brewing Company and Restaurant, one of the four restaurants involved.

Other restaurants helping organize the annual activity, which this year includes children's activities and a car and motorcycle show, are Corbin's Grille, MacCool's Public House and Holy Smoke BBQ.

Thousands are expected to gather for the festivities, which will include live music by New City Skyline. Layton police will also offer free fingerprinting for children.

"We are closing down the street and having a party," Buttschardt said. "This community partnership has a unique synergy. We hope everyone will come out."

Other restaurants participating in the event include Bandidos Border Grill, Davis Bistro, Daily Rise, Taste of India, and Kettle Corn.

Each restaurant will serve special-event menu items along the streets. Restaurants, vendors and artists may charge separately for food, wares and activities.

"With the road closed, friends and families can walk the boulevard and participate in the numerous activities," Buttschardt said.

Children's activities include bounce houses and face painting provided by ABC Daycare. Layton Fire Department will give complimentary tours of its fire trucks, while a police dog unit will give demonstrations.

The WSU men's and women's basketball teams will attend to sign autographs and shoot baskets with the public.
