LAYTON -- The Utah Transit Authority has unveiled a new set of tools officials hope will help transit users get from point A to point B with less hassle.
To provide more information and convenience for its riders, the agency recently launched several new tools, including a mobile trip-planning application, a revamped website, a social media hub and a carpool-matching database.
"We are working to find new and better ways to interact with our customers," said UTA General Manager Michael Allegra. "These new tools will help us share information with riders when and how they want it."
The new UTA website, www.rideuta.com, includes an improved trip planner, simplified navigation and greater emphasis on rider information.
UTA's mobile application can be accessed through any web-enabled smart phone, cell phone or mobile device by pointing the device's web browser at www.uta2go.com.
The new application includes route schedules, maps, a trip planner and bus stop information.
UTA also has expanded its efforts to interact with customers through social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and three new blogs.
UTA's social media network can be accessed from a hub site at www.letsrideuta.com.
In addition to public transportation services, UTA promotes carpooling and other alternative commuting methods through its UTA Rideshare program.
A new Rideshare website at www.utarideshare.com features an online tool that makes carpooling easier.
At the site, users can complete a short registration form that matches their travel patterns with similar commutes to find potential carpool partners.
Rideshare.com also features information on vanpooling, discount transit pass programs, biking and the U Car Share program offered in the Salt Lake City area by U-Haul International.
