SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah environmental groups are opposing plans to extend the life of a copper mine for nearly two more decades.
The Deseret News reports environmental activists will speak at a news conference at the Salt Lake City main library on Thursday in protest of the Cornerstone mine extension.
Kennecott Utah Copper announced its Cornerstone Project plans in August. The proposal would extend operations at the Bingham Canyon Mine to 2028.
If approved, the plan would allow Kennecott to maintain its current production levels.
