SALT LAKE CITY - Utah-based Standard Optical - celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year - has been recognized as one of the "Top 50 U.S. Optical Retailers" by the national trade publication, Vision Monday.
Vision Monday's rankings were based on U.S. sales revenue in 2010. With an increase in sales of $1.3 million from 2009 to 2010, Standard Optical ranks number 27 on the list for the second consecutive year.
"It has been exciting to watch the company grow so rapidly over the past several years," said Aaron Schubach, vice president of Standard Optical. "With technology in the optical industry constantly changing, we pride ourselves on keeping up with the pace and offering our customers the newest and best products and services available on the market."
According to the magazine's Senior Contributing Editor Cathy Ciccolella, "Despite continuing economic challenges, the country's 50 largest eyewear/eyecare retailers and optometric practices achieved a new high in combined optical sales last year." As a group, they generated aggregate revenues estimated at a record $7.4 billion.
Standard Optical was founded in Salt Lake City in 1911. Now with 18 statewide locations, Standard Optical is still owned and operated by the same family. Standard Optical specializes in full-scope comprehensive eyewear and eye care, including examinations, glasses, contact lenses and LASIK vision correction.
