FARMINGTON -- Adding value to what the Legacy Events Center already offers visitors will take a vendor who has good taste in concessionary food.
"We are seeking bids from vendors to run our concessions operation at the Legacy Events Center," said Dave Hansen, center director.
Davis County has issued a request for proposals in seeking a concessionaire who can manage, operate and maintain the concession operation in the center at 151 S. 1100 West.
"I believe this could be a very good opportunity for some entrepreneurial spirit," Hansen wrote in an email to the Standard-Examiner.
A mandatory bidders meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Legacy Events Center. Proposals must be received by the county by 4 p.m. June 20.
All proposals will be opened at the 10 a.m. June 21 county commission meeting to be held in the Memorial Courthouse, 45 E. State St.
The bid should be awarded five to 10 days after the meeting, states the request for proposals.
The attempt to contract those services out is a departure for the county, which previously had the center's concession booths managed and operated by a county employee.
That employee died in December, resulting in a new hire who did not work out and eventually left the job, said Commissioner John Petroff Jr.
"The county might come out better if we have a private concessionaire," he said.
For that reason, the county is exploring whether to create a public/private partnership with a vendor.
The Legacy Events Center concessionaire will be required to provide appropriate food and beverages to the public at the concessions stands.
The concessionaire will be responsible for obtaining all of the necessary permits and licenses, including business licenses and the appropriate beer and alcohol licenses, according to the proposal.
"Alcohol service has been limited to events specifically requesting such service. Typically, alcohol is sold at the events center six times a year," reads the request for proposals.
The concessionaire will not be given exclusivity to food services at the Davis County Fair.
