OGDEN -- McKay-Dee Hospital has been voted one of the top 20 most beautiful hospitals in America.
The hospital came in at No. 11 in ratings by Soliant Health, one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the country. More than 250 hospitals nationwide were nominated.
On its website, the company stated judges were impressed by McKay-Dee's nearby nature park and man-made lake surrounding the hospital, which makes it a welcoming environment for both body and soul.
Nearly 70,000 people voted during the third annual contest.
The hospital, which opened at its present location in 2002, was designed to strengthen the views of the mountains and surrounding valleys, said Timothy T. Pehrson, CEO at McKay-Dee Hospital. The large windows provide plenty of natural light. Paintings fill the hallways, and warm comforting colors help to provide a calm and relaxed atmosphere. The hospital is surrounded by a mile-long fitness trail. Just to the south of the hospital are a reflecting pool and fountain.
The hospital has live plants scattered throughout to ensure clean air and a natural scent. Pianists can be heard playing peaceful tunes as people enter the large, wide-open lobby equipped with soft chairs and a fireplace.
"Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital Center is a center of extraordinary care in the community," Pehrson said. "Founded by Annie Taylor Dee in 1910, the hospital continues to provide high-tech service with personalized care, regardless of patient's ability to pay."
McKay-Dee Hospital is comprised of 845,395 square feet that includes 340 beds.
Pehrson said the hospital continues to get support from community members and organizations to help bring in state-of-the-art services and beautiful surroundings that contribute to the healing environment.
The hospital coming at No. 1 was Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Virginia. To see the complete list go to blog.soliant.com/most-beautiful-hospitals/2011.
