Gillespie: Provo comedian's video offensive

OGDEN -- When Adrienne Gillespie saw a Utah video in the news and that it was close to becoming viral, she had a gut reaction.

"I am so offended, so disheartened," she posted on her Facebook page. "Few things give me pause such as this."

PROVO -- A YouTube video of a comedian who painted his face black to quiz Brigham Young University students about Black History Month is bringing some unwanted attention to the Mormon-run school.

Author to speak on LDS black history

PROVO -- Brigham Young University will host Margaret Blair Young, one of the authors of "Nobody Knows: The Untold Story of Black Mormons," in a lecture at noon Wednesday in the Education in Zion auditorium.

BYU Bookstore lays off 29 employees

PROVO -- Citing business losses, the BYU Bookstore at Brigham Young University is laying off 29 employees.

The building was constructed in 1867 and co-existed with the larger Provo Tabernacle after it was built in the late 1880s. The older building was demolished in 1919.

Skinny jeans causes dress code squabble at BYU-Idaho

REXBURG, Idaho -- A spokesman for Brigham Young University-Idaho says a campus department crossed the line when banning students from wearing skinny jeans while attempting to carry out the Mormon school's dress code.

Kent A. Hall, 77, of Pleasant View, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Pleasant View 7th Ward Chapel, 900 W. Pleasant View Drive. BYU formally accepts Armed Forces bowl bid

 

FORT WORTH, Texas -- BYU has formally accepted its invitation to play in the Armed Forces Bowl.

The Cougars, playing an independent schedule this year, had been granted a provisional invitation in April. BYU was 7-3 and already bowl eligible going into its home game Saturday night against New Mexico State.

BYU will play a Conference USA team in the Dec. 30 Armed Forces Bowl that will be played on the SMU campus.

It will be the Cougars' seventh consecutive bowl appearance under coach Bronco Mendenhall.

Davies glad to be back on the court for BYU

PROVO -- BYU's Brandon Davies feels like a changed man after a six-month suspension that ended his last season and left him as a spectator while the Cougars made a run to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Sen. Lieberman to speak at BYU forum

PROVO -- Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., will speak at a Brigham Young University forum at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday in the Marriott Center. A question-and-answer session will immediately follow the forum, the university announced in a news release.

Slain BYU prof's family sues over arrest, prosecution

SALT LAKE CITY -- The son and daughter-in-law of a slain Brigham Young University professor are suing Utah County police and prosecutors over their wrongful murder indictment for his death.
