SPRINGVILLE -- Bear scares have authorities posting warnings and shutting down a campground on the outskirts of Springville.
State Division of Wildlife Resources officials posted signs Sunday and are trying to track and trap nuisance bruins after a series of human-bear encounters in an area near the Hobble Creek Golf Course.
The Deseret News of Salt Lake City reports that Springville officials closed the city-owned Kelly's Grove campground Sunday evening.
Residents say they've seen at least two different bears around cabins in the area.
Four years ago, authorities were faulted for failing to post warnings before an 11-year-old boy was killed by a bear at a U.S. Forest Service campsite in American Fork Canyon. The boy's family recently won a $2 million federal lawsuit.
