1. Name some of the qualifications you possess that makes you the best choice to represent your city?
My professional background comes in the upbringing of Robert W. Speirs Plumbing, Inc. I became one of the youngest Journeyman Plumbers in the State of Utah by completing four years of training at Davis Applied Technology College and 8,000 work hours. I completed this training in 2005. I have since been moved into management and am now the Vice President. I handle the financial operations and rotate in the complete day to day management of the company. This means that I handle a budget of 10+ Million and
the daily schedules of 40+ employees.
I have received intensive leadership training from Rapport Leadership International. I have completed over 100 hours of class training along with 100 hours of On-Team training. This training aides in becoming a more effective leader teaching in finding a new approach to situations, power communication, etc.
I have had the opportunity to also serve in many different leadership positions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One position that I held was the Kaysville-Fruit Heights Regional Sports Director that involved the organizing and carrying out of tournaments for each sport. I have spent hundreds of hours officiating (refereeing) in each sport, especially basketball, in which I have been able to show that I am able to keep a level head during the most heated times.
I have volunteered with the Kaysville City Civic Committee for 10 years. I have been involved with the behind the scenes work and the event work. This involves the New Year's Celebration, Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July Activities, and Veterans Day Program.
Through my involvement with the Civic Committee I became friends with many of the Council members at that time and began attending meetings. I have always had a desire to serve others and be of good in this world.
I bring a new face with new ideas that I believe to be important to the Council. I am young enough that I am not set in certain ways however I am mature enough to make big decisions in difficult conditions that are for the good of the majority. I am not afraid to ask big questions and find facts that lead to the best solutions.
2. What political ideals and philosophies guide your decision-making process?
I believe that the best decisions come from a group of individuals each with different backgrounds and experiences.
I believe in maintaining our low tax rate that the Citizens of Kaysville have enjoyed for so many years.
I understand the direction of the City's General Plan and will follow it. As land use requests come before the council I will earnestly seek out the affects that each proposal brings to the area. I believe that land owners have rights to use their land in ways that they see best as long as it follow the GP and falls within current ordinances.
Public Safety is of the utmost importance and is not a place to under fund.
3. What is the most important issue facing your city?
Our great city is facing difficult economic times as is the rest of our World. It is up to each of us as citizens to maintain a high quality of life by doing our part to help each other. One program that I have worked up to help our citizens is called the "Community Work Program." This program is designed to help citizens that have delinquent City Utility Payments. Through the program individuals will be able to work within the city through varies departments and earn credits towards those balances.
Thanks to my professional background in Construction, I understand how to maintain and control tight budgets to maximize every dollar. I will bring this knowledge and experience to the city. I am not afraid of the difficult decisions even if it involves making necessary cuts to ensure that every taxpayer dollar is not wasted.
4. Name some qualities that you possess that make you a good team worker and able to bring consensus among city leaders.
I am able to bring a level head and enable decisions to be made. When I feel the best about a position, I am able to show the pro's and con's and help others come to the same decision. I am also able to accept others position and agree to disagree. I am able to go with what is best for everyone involved.
5. What do you think will be some major issues your city will face a generation from now?
Limited space for cemeteries and continued growth. Kaysville citizens love this city, and desire to stay here for life. As children grow up and start families of their own, many choose to stay within the city and the trend continues.
