Name: Val L. Coles
Occupation: For over 50 years I have been in the business of helping people. I was in the men's retail business for over 30 years many of those years as business owner.
I am currently semi retired after 22 years of self employment in the insurance and financial industry.
Family: My wife Renee and I have enjoyed fifty four years of marriage. We are the parents of four children who all live pretty much locally between So Ogden, Washington Terrace, Roy and Salt Lake City. We currently are the grandparents of thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Hobbies: I pretty much enjoy all sports some I play and other as a spectator. I do enjoy golf and play on a regular basis. I am a musician and currently only play for my own enjoyment. ; I enjoy my daily work out which includes walking, strength training and cycling. I am a big fan of animals; therefore, I spend a considerable amount of time walking with our dog. We also find time to enjoy our motor home during the summer months.
Qualifications: I feel that I have the experience, and understanding of the issues of our city to be an effective Mayor. Washington Terrace needs to continue to enjoy Economic growth, quality infrastructure and maintain an excellent bedroom community lifestyle for the citizens. Having served both as a council member for two terms and on the planning commission for the city, at a time of some of the cities greatest growth, gives me additional insight, understanding and experience to be an effective Mayor. As Mayor I will emphasize the need to keep taxes down, public safety, and greater transparency and accountability in city government. As a business owner for many years I understand the compelling need to make good common sense decisions.
Most Important issues facing your city:
Completion and imminent issues associated to the Fire Station and senior center.
To efficiently utilize the property currently occupied by the old fire dept.
Creating a safer access from US 89 onto Adams Avenue Parkway leading to the hospital and the many businesses now located off of Adams Avenue Parkway.
Further development and repair of roads at Rohmer Park as funds become available.
Beautification of the city needs to be a priority in order to maintain a viable image and retain property values and being proactive in promoting quality commercial and residential growth within the city.
While serving on the city council and planning commission my record as a team player is evident as it is a team effort by everyone, staff, city council and the planning commission, that has accomplished many of the goals the citizens enjoy today.
My success of fifty years in the business working with people both in the private and the business sector is also a good omen of being able to be a team player and bring consensus among individuals.
