OGDEN -- Along with changing clocks tonight, the Ogden Fire Department reminds people to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

In a news release, the department recommends having a smoke and carbon monoxide detector outside each sleeping area with at least one smoke detector on each level of the home. Smoke detectors older than 10 years should be replaced with a new one; the same for carbon monoxide detectors more than seven years old.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Fumes from a generator leaked into a camper, killing three men and two women who were at a biker festival to raise money for needy children, an organizer for the event said.

It all started when a man arrived at McKay-Dee Hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning, said Ogden Fire Capt. Jon Fretwell. At about 9 p.m., emergency responders went out to his apartment complex at 140 E. 28th St.

CO poisoning puts 4 in hospital

OGDEN -- Four people were hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning early Tuesday morning.

Police Lt. Danielle Croyle said a call came to police for help just after midnight from a home in the 1000 block of 2nd Street. When they arrived at the home, police evacuated four people. When air in the home was tested, it was found to have high levels of carbon monoxide.

5 teens found dead in Florida motel room; carbon monoxide could be to blame

MIAMI -- The day after Christmas, Juchen Martial wanted to celebrate his 19th birthday.

So he and four friends from their Little Haiti neighborhood rented a Hialeah motel room Sunday for a night of fun and fast food.

By 2 p.m., a hotel maid discovered all five teenagers dead, apparently poisoned by carbon monoxide fumes.

The car they had driven -- a red Kia Optima -- was left running in the bottom-floor, single-car garage. The door to the interior stairway leading to the room on the second floor was opened slightly, allowing the odorless, deadly fumes to seep upstairs.

Carbon monoxide the silent killer

OGDEN -- With the arrival of cold weather, people need to be on the lookout for the silent killer.
