Komen reverses decision to cut Planned Parenthood funding

In a reversal of policy after a nationwide uproar over its decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, Susan G. Komen for the Cure said Friday that it will amend its new funding rules and allow continued funding of breast health programs operated by the clinic.

Welfare facility for LDS Church expands in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY -- A huge, technology-driven facility, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' new Bishops' Central Storehouse exists for those in need of life's most basic necessities.

Officials unveiled the facility Thursday. The storehouse has 535,966 square feet of space and room for 65,000 pallets of food and supplies.

Fresh-food donation drive set for Monday

OGDEN -- While Top of Utah residents are celebrating the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday, workers at United Way of Northern Utah are hoping they will think of others.

United Way will sponsor a fresh-food drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its offices at 2955 Harrison Blvd. Area residents are invited to drop off fresh fruits and vegetables inside or near the north doors of the building.

Man on charity collection rounds gets car stolen

Catholic Community Services of Northern Utah efforts sustained by LDS faithful

OGDEN — “Shopping” for groceries at the Catholic Community Services Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank will be more pleasant for low-income clients after shelving is installed by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Officials recently announced approval from Smith’s Food and Drug Community Affairs to provide the shelving and a promise from members of the LDS Ogden, Utah, stake to provide the labor to install it.

“I told (CCS of Northern Utah Director Marcy Valdez) if there were any costs involved, we would love to pay for that,” said Scott Handy, chairman of the Ogden stake special projects committee. “We will go down and set up the shopping experience.”

Clearfield players set world record with 107-hour basketball game

CLEARFIELD -- They made it.

The 22 players trying to set a world record for the longest continuous basketball game stopped playing about 10 p.m. Friday, said Kurt Spencer, executive director for the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Foundation.

The old record of 107 hours was reached about 8 p.m. Friday and the game continued for another two hours, Spencer said.
