OGDEN -- A "Blanket The World With Love" offering will be taken at the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 3350 Harrison Blvd. in Ogden.
Polly Harrington will give a short mission presentation, noting that warm blankets for a family left homeless by an earthquake or other disaster could make "a world of difference."
"Often the first thing needed in a disaster is a blanket for warmth, comfort, sometimes even shelter," she said. "A blanket can become a tent for shelter, a bed, a coat, a suitcase."
The offering nationwide called Blankets Plus is given to the ecumenical Church World Service for people who need help.
The organization states that $25 can provide five warm blankets for a family and can enable three women to receive a loan for literacy and other training to build their families' futures.
Contributions also may be mailed or taken to the church.
After the Sunday worship service, an all-church potluck will be held with a build your own banana split dessert as a fundraiser for Ogden's Ecumenical Vacation Bible School June 7 to 11 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ogden.
