OGDEN -- Prevent Child Abuse Utah is holding a Community Pinwheel Vigil for the Powell boys at 4 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Municipal Gardens Playground.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A relentless Danish sex predator who used Facebook to stalk and threaten an 11-year-old Missouri girl likely will spend the rest of his life in a U.S. prison.

Kai Lundstroem Pedersen, 61, whose own lawyer described his crimes as "horrific" and "unspeakable," was sentenced to 30 years in prison for using multiple aliases and online accounts to extort the Buchanan County girl into making child pornography.

Teacher accused of outrageous lewd acts was previously investigated

LOS ANGELES -- A veteran Los Angeles teacher charged this week with lewd acts on 23 children was also investigated in 1994 after a girl reported that he tried to fondle her, sheriff's officials said.

Charges filed against couple in teen's death

OGDEN -- Alexis Rasmussen died of a drug overdose late Sept. 10 or early Sept. 11 in the home of Eric and Dea Millerberg where she was baby-sitting.

The overdose was not intentional, rather the reckless result of child abuse, Weber County Attorney Dee Smith said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference.

After a four-month investigation, Eric Millerberg was charged Tuesday with child abuse homicide and three other felonies in the death of the North Ogden teen.

Mark Berndt, 61, was arrested Monday at his Torrance home and remained jailed Tuesday on $2.3 million bail.
