Federal funds for crime victims in N. Utah dwindling

FARMINGTON — Federal funding to provide services to victims of crimes continues to shrink, but Davis County officials say that will not prevent them from offering the help that is needed.

The cuts to the Victims of Crime Act, however, may reduce the amount of office supply inventory and the food families are given during their initial interview at the Davis County Children’s Justice Center, officials say.

Justice Center plans open house

OGDEN — The Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center, 2408 Van Buren Ave., Ogden, will have its annual open house Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Used law enforcement bikes help fetch $6K for Davis Children's Justice Center

FARMINGTON — A four-hour yard sale, with 170 bikes made available by area law enforcement agencies, generated close to $6,000 Saturday for the Davis County Children’s Justice Center in Farmington.

The money will be used to buy food and snacks for the child victims interviewed at the center, as well as provide special forensic training for area investigators, Davis County Children’s Justice Center Director Tayna Perkins said.

Also, the funds generated by this year’s yard sale, held this time annually, totaled “a few hundred dollars more” than last year’s event, with money still coming in, said Perkins, who anticipated having a total dollar amount in a couple of days.

Benefit dinner set for justice center

Davis may top 2011 child abuse cases well before 2012 is out

FARMINGTON — More people, heightened awareness and more criminal incidents has the number of child abuse cases opened at the Davis County Children’s Justice Center on pace to shatter the total case count for 2011.

From January through March of this year, 128 sexual or physical child abuse cases have been opened at the CJC in Farmington, said Susan Burton, the center’s development coordinator.

During 2011, a total of 364 cases were reported to the CJC, she said.

Opening of Davis Children's Justice Center a few weeks out

FARMINGTON -- The move into the new $1.5 million Children's Justice Center is under way.

But officials don't anticipate CJC staff offices to be operational in the 9,400-square-foot structure for a few more weeks, while furniture, fixtures and equipment arrive and are moved in.

The Davis County Commission recently approved the transfer of $3.5 million from its general fund to its capital improvement fund.

Children's Justice Center will cost the county $33K more

FARMINGTON -- Finishing the basement on the $1.5 million Children's Justice Center, which is now under construction, is going to cost Davis County an additional $33,165 in design work.

On Tuesday, the Davis County Commission approved a "contract amendment" with the architectural firm of Blalock & Partners, of Salt Lake City, to expand the scope of the 9,800-square-foot center to have its design show a finished basement.

"There are some structural changes that need to be made to the basement," said Barry Burton, Davis County's director of planning. "We're going to finish the entire basement."
